Everett Tessmer

Everett Tessmer, 89, of Tripoli, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Congregation of Tripoli with Rev. John E. Block officiating.  Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Memorials May be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Congregation, 700 4th St. S.W. Tripoli, Iowa 50676.  

Warren Everett Tessmer, son of Walter and Helen Pleggenkuhle Tessmer, was born April 29, 1923, in Eden Township or rural Fayette County, Iowa. He graduated from Alpha High School in 1941. On October 10, 1948, he was united in marriage with Geneva Grebien. Following Geneva’s death, Everett was married to Bernice Koch on December 4, 1965, at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. A longtime resident of Tripoli, Everett worked for many years at Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo. He also did tiling work in the Tripoli area. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Congregation in Tripoli. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and deer hunting.

In addition to his wife, Bernice of Tripoli, he is survived by one son, Karl Tessmer of Tripoli; one daughter, Ann (Jon) Hilliard of Dike; three grandchildren, Lucius Hilliard, Danielle Husmann, and Joshua Hilliard; one great granddaughter, Alana Husmann; and one sister, Della Reiser of Fredericksburg.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Margaret who died in infancy on December 8, 1951; four brothers, Ted, Archibald, Dean, and Alvin; and one sister, Labenius.
